Eight Iowa Lakes Community College students will advance to the National SkillsUSA competition this June thanks to their rankings at the state level. A total of 11 college students placed in the state competition.
In addition, two high school students will also compete in the national event.
Of the college students, gold medalists (1st place) include: Bradley Bond, Marcus, Marine Service Technology; Alex Kenne, Algona, Construction Technology; Michael Ohmart, Rolfe, Construction Technology; Nate Samp, Algona, Construction Technology; Luke Sundblad, Albert City, Construction Technology; and, Jaren Nunnikhoven, Pella, Motorcycle and Small Engine Technology.
Chris Brady, Iowa Falls, Marine Service Technology received a silver (2nd place) medal. A third place medal was awarded to Brian Asche, Spencer, Marine Service Technology.
Three Motorcycle and Small EngineTechnology students also placed in the top 10: Daniel Elings, Atlantic; Andrew Feauto, Akron; and Trent Park, Atlantic.
At the high school level, students from Algona also competed in the contest.
The Television (Video) Production team from Algona High School, Scott Haas and Dan Haack, brought home a first place rating which qualifies them to attend the national competition.
Students enrolled in the Automotive Technology, Construction, and Television Broadcast Media programs at Algona High School and the Marine program offered to the students at Okoboji and Graettinger-Terril also earn college credit which offers them advanced status when they enroll at Iowa Lakes Community College.
