2014 Show and Jazz Choir Festival Details
When your choir arrives, they should enter the main building on the west side through the college’s main entrance (Entrance #1). Iowa Lakes’ students will be there to greet you and take you to your homeroom. Because schools share the homerooms, students will need to take responsibility for their valuables. Do be patient as we are holding classes…therefore we do not have unlimited space, and it is important to be quiet as well.
After unloading, buses may park on 18th Street. Please encourage students to check out our Student Center/Cafeteria where they can eat lunch and get snack food and relax.
Show choirs will warm-up in room 60, which is a 45’ x 40’ area with mirrors, and jazz choirs will warm-up in room 74. When it is your performance time, guides will take you to the performance area. You will have forty minutes to set-up, perform, and receive comments. During your free time, you are invited to watch the other choirs perform.
The performance area for show choirs will be a 30’ x 50’ stage. Three levels of 4’ x 8’ platform risers will be available for you to use. We have access to a fourth level – so please email me to let me know if your choir needs a fourth level. Also, you may make use of the following provided equipment: P.A. with five microphones, bass amp, piano amp, ten music stands, and an acoustic grand piano. Jazz Choirs can make use of the following equipment: P.A. with twelve microphones, ten music stands, and an acoustic baby grand piano. Jazz Choirs may bring their own sound equipment and technician.
Again, we are pleased to have Clay Blackman from Omaha as our show choir clinician, and Dr. Kurt Runestad from Doane College working with the jazz choirs. Performances will be recorded and take-home comments will be provided.
Please fill out the selection/soloist form online at: http://www.iowalakes.edu/music/showjazz_choir_festival/2014_selectionsoloist_form. This form needs to be turned in by Wednesday, January 23rd. Also, please bring a set of your music for the clinician.
I look forward to talking with you and watching your choirs perform at the festival. If you have any questions or if there is anything I can do for you, please call me at 712-330-1145.
