Nine Iowa Lakes Community College Swimmers and Divers will be joining 25 community colleges across the country to compete in the 2011- 2012 National Junior College Athletic Association Swimming and Diving Championships on March 7, 8, 9 and 10 at the Anne Wilder Aquatic Complex, on the campus of Indian River State College, in Ft. Pierce, Fla. This follows the Lakers swimming and diving team’s second place finish at regionals.
Student-Athletes competing include: Tyler Brigham, Spencer; Regional 1 Meter Diving Champion, Emalee Buchholz, Aurora, Col.; John Dahl, Rolfe; Regional Mile Champion, Matt Howell, Council Bluffs; Nate Lutat, Estherville; Keegan Schlager, Scottsbluff, Neb.; Mike Skiles, Scottsbluff, Neb.; Regional Champion 200 Butterfly, Samantha Wesel, Hales Corner, Wis., and Mike Wickwire, Marshalltown.
Coach Johnathan Jordan is confident the swimmers and divers are ready to compete at the national championships.
“Our team is extremely prepared for the national championships,” Jordan said. “The swimmers and divers have been working hard for the past six months to get ready for this final competition. They are all well rested, and ready for a tough week of competition.”
And, he’s predicting good results.
“I expect to have a great first national appearance for the swimming and diving team, and anticipate our athletes will come home with podium finishes,” Jordan predicted.
