Sam Mashburn took over the duties of Head Coach of the swimming and diving program at Iowa Lakes on June 15, 2015. He is a native of Cumming, Ga., where he swam distance freestyle and backstroke at Mars Hill University in Mars Hill, N.C.
Mashburn has been involved with competitive swimming and diving since the age of 5. After graduating from Mars Hill University in 2010, Mashburn coached for various USA club swim teams in the Atlanta area. In 2012, he became the assistant swim coach for Union College where he coached the distance team. While there, Mashburn helped coach a distance team that finished in the top 8 at nationals in 2014.
He has also worked at The American School Foundation as a physical education teacher and varsity swim coach. Two of the swimmers on his team qualified for the Mexican National Championship Meet.
Mashburn received his Master’s degree in Health/Physical Education from Union College in 2014.
Coach Miranda Anderson serves her first season as a graduate assistant with Iowa Lakes Swimming and
Miranda fell in love with the water at an early age and started competitive swimming at age 7.
She grew up in Lakeville and Fergus Falls, Minn., and attended Fergus Falls Senior High School. She was a three-sport athlete but excelled in the pool going to the State Meet all four years, earning All-Conference honors, and becoming a Section Champion in the 500 Freestyle.
Coach Anderson attended Alma College (NCAA Div. III) in Alma, Mich., receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration and Strategic and Public Communication (2014). At Alma, she was a three-sport athlete in Swim (4 years), Lacrosse (3 years) and Bowling (1 year). As a swimmer she was named to the All-MIAA (all conference) team twice, earned Honorable Mention Academic All-American honors, broke six college records, and served as a team captain her senior year.
After graduating, Miranda secured an assistant coach job at (NAIA) Lindsey Wilson College as well as a co-head coach job of the Blue Raider Aquatic Club while getting a Master of Business Administration degree in Sports Management from the University of the Southwest (2015).
She continues to be active in the sport. Before starting at Iowa Lakes, she swam in a 36-mile river race placing 8th overall and also competed in the Flathead Lake Swim Series taking first in her age group for the ½ mile, 1 mile, 5K, and 10K races.
Coach Anderson is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Sports Management through Northcentral University (NCU).
