Iowa Lakes Community College will recognize sophomore soccer players at Saturday’s home game against Iowa Central. The public is invited to attend the games which start at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Soccer fans are encouraged to wear blue Saturday.
During the half-time of the men’s game (at approximately 2:45 p.m.) a recognition ceremony will be held at mid-field.
“These young men and women have played here two years and have contributed to the success of soccer here in Spencer,” said Head Coach Ammon Bennett. “We’re honoring them to show our appreciation for being a part of the soccer program – and Iowa Lakes athletics.”
Members from the women’s team who will be honored include: Grace Gould, Ellie Hoover, Kelsey Nielson and Rebecca Berry. Men who will be recognized include: Daniel Ramirez, Tom Boe, Ruud Boijseauneau, Victor Cruz and Thomas Carbonari.
During the ceremony, sophomore students will be escorted to the center of the field by a parent, friend or teacher where they will join Coach Bennett, along with Assistant Coach Sheena Van Roekel, who will make a few comments. Troy Larson, Athletics Director, will also be in attendance. Students will each be presented with a soccer jersey with their number and name on it.
Also, the Spencer Student Senators will ‘beef up’ their offerings at the concession stand for the day. In addition to the usual pop and chips, hot dogs will be sold Saturday. Proceeds from the concession stand go back to the Spencer campus to support general student activities.
Student senators plan to distribute free, temporary tattoos to attendees. And, soccer posters from this season will be handed out.
