The Iowa Lakes Community College Men’s and Women’s Soccer teams had a successful fundraising event for the 2012 season. With many of the players coming from Utah, Coach Ammon Bennett made a trip out west to visit with the players and their families for a barbeque.
“Nearly 150 people showed up in support of the 35 soccer players who will be coming to play for us,” Bennett said. “It was awesome and to be quite honest, I was overwhelmed by the generosity and excitement from the players and families.”
All together the event raised nearly $3,000 which will be used for soccer scholarships.
“A special thanks is in order to the Rasmussen family that donated the food for the cook out and to the Cook family for doing the grilling,” Coach Bennett added.
The Iowa Lakes Community College soccer players started practice on Aug. 9 with the opening regular season game scheduled for Aug. 25 against Dakota County Technical College at the Spencer Soccer Complex. Game times are 6:00 p.m. for the Women and 8:00 p.m. for the Men.
A banner featuring participant signatures will be proudly displayed at the soccer field during the upcoming season.
Those interested in establishing scholarships are asked to contact Iowa Lakes Institutional Advancement Executive Director Jolene Rogers, at 712-362-0491 or 800-242-5106 ext. 4491. Contributions are tax deductible and support Iowa Lakes Community College in many areas.
