Three women and five men from Iowa Lakes were named to the 2011 Iowa Community College Academic All-Region teams.
Traci Speltz, a freshman from Armstrong, was selected first-team Academic All-Region. Freshmen Steph Carlson and Dani Slattery, both from Spencer, received second-team Academic All-Region honors. Dani and Traci both earned All-Region honors for placing in the top 20 at the Regional meet in Council Bluffs. All three women competed in the national meet in Spartanburg, S.C.
Sun Mudiavita, a freshman from Congo, Africa, was selected first-team Academic All-Region. Freshmen Zane Blanchard from Decorah, Rob Bauer from Algona, Gunner Johnson from Motley, Minn., and Casey Dekker from Sioux City all received second-team Academic All-Region honors. Zane, Gunner and Casey also participated at the national meet in Spartanburg, S.C.
To receive first-team Academic All-Region honors, the student-athlete must have a GPA of 3.5 or higher; while second-team honors must have a GPA of 3.0 – 3.49.
Head Coach Molly Struve knows the student-athletes worked hard over the past season, and credits them for their success.
“I am proud to have five of the nine men and three of the four women earn an Academic All-Region award. It takes hard work and determination to excel at both athletics and academics while in college, and these student-athletes have shown they are capable of doing it,” she stated.
