The #3 nationally ranked Laker volleyball team will play host to NIACC in the first round of the ICCAC Region XI Tournament Tuesday night at the Iowa Lakes Community College Gymnasium in Estherville. The match begins at 7 p.m.
Region XI has two brackets with Iowa Lakes seeded number one in Bracket A with DMACC, Marshalltown and NIACC. Bracket B is seeded Iowa Central, Kirkwood, Southeastern and Clinton 1-4 respectively. The winners of each bracket qualify for the National Tournament hosted by Owens Community College in Toledo, Ohio, Nov. 17-19, 2011.
The Lakers completed an undefeated conference record going 9-0 in ICCAC matches and 30-8 overall while NIACC finished ICCAC play 2-7 and 13-26 overall.
Iowa Lakes has several players in the national rankings for stats with Le Mi, Christy Wicks and Xiao Liang ranked 2, 3 and 4 respectively in blocks per set. Liang ranks 10th in the nation in hitting efficiency while teammate Kellisha Harley ranks #7 in assists per set. Liang’s 465 kills on the season puts her at #18 in kills per set.
The winner will advance to Cedar Rapids on Saturday to play the winner of the DMACC vs. Marshalltown match.
