New Iowa Lakes Women's Basketball Coach Hired

June 22, 2011

Nicole BullockIowa Lakes Director of Athletics Troy Larson announced today that Nicole Bullock will become the new head women’s basketball coach. She will also take over the role of student senate advisor for the Estherville campus.

Bullock is a Sac City native, joining Iowa Lakes from Adams State (Colo.) where she has been an assistant coach for the past three years. While there, the Grizzlies posted many notable achievements including two, 21-win regular seasons and the first appearance in program history in the NCAA Division II National Tournament Sweet 16. They have also led the nation in rebound margin two years running.

Bullock received a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science and played basketball four years at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, Minn. She is currently finishing a Master’s degree in Kinesiology and Biomechanics. Her long list of accolades as a player include: NSIC Conference All-Tournament Team, NSIC Conference Championship team, 2001-02 NCAA National Tournament, 2002 NCAA Division II Sweet 16, 2000-2003 NSIC All-Academic Team, and 2000-2003 Scholar Athlete.

“I am grateful to the Laker Community for the opportunity to begin my career as a head coach and to build a successful women’s basketball program,” commented Bullock.

She looks forward to joining Iowa Lakes and the community of Estherville.

“Iowa Lakes is an outstanding institution and provides the opportunity for academic success to a wide variety of potential student-athletes. I plan to expand a respected program not only on the basketball floor but also in the classroom,” said Bullock.

Her style of play looks to be one that will attract talented student-athletes and be exciting for fans to attend games as well.

“As a coach I want to develop a program that has a hard-nosed up-tempo mentality that takes pride in playing defense and doing things the right way,” said Bullock. “My goal is to find a select group of student-athletes who want to better their character, unite as one, and be a positive addition to the culture of our program.”

Bullock is committed to academics and making a difference in the lives of student-athletes, according to Larson.

“She has had a great deal of success at a high level as an assistant and I’m confident that this will carry over to Iowa Lakes,” Larson said. He added that Nicole will be a great addition to the Iowa Lakes Athletic family.

Bullock takes over a Lakers team that was 14-17 in 2011. For more information about athletics at Iowa Lakes Community College, visit
