Men's Basketball vs DMACC Recap from January 18, 2014

January 23, 2014

On Saturday night the bears of Des Moines Area Community College game to Laker gymnasium for their first conference meeting of the 2013-14 season. In front of a great crowd, the Lakers came out victorious 78-65.

Iowa Lakes enjoyed on of their best starts to a game this season. The Lakers went up 8-0 after some great ball movement and two early threes, hit by Tate Harmon and Diamontae McKinley, forcing  DMACC to call an early timeout. This woke the bears up and midway through the half the teams were deadlocked at 17 apiece. With seven second left in the half the Lakers had the ball at mid court. They inbounded it to All-American Deondre Parks and as time expired he hit a one legged fade away from the left wing. He was fouled on the play and iced the free throw to give the home team a 10 point lead at the half 41-31.

The Bears started the second half with more energy and scored the first bucket. The Lakers however remained composed and stretched the lead to a game high 14 points behind Parks who hit back to back threes and an acrobatic layup in the lane. DMACC fought hard for the rest of the game but was unable to get any closer than 8 points, as the Lakers used the clock and made free throws down the stretch.

Deondre Parks lead all scorers with 38 points at a very efficient 14-20 from the field. He also had 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Diamontae McKinley continued his great play with 12 points and 8 assists. The Bears were led by Jamar Hurdle, who came off the bench to score 16 points and grab 11 rebounds.

With the win the Lakers improve to 12-5 overall and 4-1 in conference play. The bears fall to 16-4 and 3-2 in conference play. The Lakers next game is Tuesday January 21st in Laker Gymnasium at 7.30pm. They face Dakota Wesleyan JV.
