“This is going to be a very competitive tournament, there is only one weight class that has less than 4 ranked participants,” Head Coach Cody Alesch said about the weekend. “This is probably the deepest and most competitive qualifier this region has ever had.”
The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference has been selected to host the National Wrestling Tournament this year. It will be held at the Richard O. Jacobson Exhibition Center on the Iowa State Fair Grounds from Friday, Feb. 22nd to Saturday, Feb. 23rd.
Because Iowa Lakes is a member of the host conference they, and the other schools participating in the regional tournament, will receive additional qualifiers. The top 4 wrestlers at each weight are automatic qualifiers, plus there will be additional wild cards selected at the end of the day.
Tournament action begins at 10 AM on Sunday. “We are eager to get the qualifier started,” Coach Alesch added. “This is the day that all the kids have been thinking about for months while preparing and working towards the goals they have set for themselves and the team.”
