Iowa Lakes Community College Head Men’s Soccer Coach Ben MacRae has announced the new men’s soccer team that will be set to compete for the 2014 season. The roster includes one returning player and 25 incoming freshmen.
“I thoroughly expect to be in the Final Four in the conference shake up this year,” MacRae said. “If we can defend well and hit teams on the break, there could be more to come from this very young team.”
The team will be the youngest in the conference, but has depth to make each individual better.
“We have a number of outstanding freshmen coming into the side this year so the competition for places on the pitch will be fierce,” added MacRae.
The 2014 Men’s Soccer schedule has the team playing several top teams from around the region and nationally. Last year’s national champions, Iowa Western, return a number of outstanding players, along with Iowa Central, Marshalltown and NIACC who rounded out the final four.
“The schedule is very competitive with our men playing six teams that usually are ranked in the top 15 in the NJCAA polls,” MacRae said. “To break into that elite group will be tough, but we have a great team spirit and if the players can understand their roles within the team, there might be a few upsets on the cards.”
The men have six home games this season. Their full schedule can be found at www.iowalakes.edu
“We hope the community will come out and support our team as we look to have a great year,” he said.
