Iowa Lakes’ sophomore golfer Austin Sweeney finished his final round at the NJCAA National Tournament tied for 14th. Shooting a 74 the last day, putting him 13 over par for the week.
Sweeney, a Southerland native, was named Second team NJCAA All-American and to the All-Tournament team which is given to the top 18 finishers at nationals.
“I am very proud of Austin. He had a goal all year to make it to nationals and take home some hardware,” Head Coach Andy Soper said. “It was a pleasure coaching him the last two years and helping him reach his goal!”
He became the third All-American golfer at Iowa Lakes in the last 20 years, second in the last 4 years, and is the highest finisher at the National Tournament in Laker history.
“I have to give a lot of credit to Austin, he was focused all week and never let the atmosphere get to him,” Soper added. “He has matured so much the past two years, we are going to miss him very much next season.”
