Former Iowa Lakes Softball Player Stephanie Ochoa Experiences Big Success in Big 10

June 2, 2011

Stephanie OchoaStephanie Ochoa, a former Iowa Lakes Community College softball standout continued her successful play this past season with the University of Iowa softball team.

Ochoa, a senior this past year at Iowa, posted a .612 batting average and was named Player of the Week in mid-March as she led the Hawkeyes to four wins during that week. In addition, she had a 1.317 OPS (On-base Plus Slugging). The weekly honor was the first for Ochoa.

After going 1-for-5 to start the week at the Stetson Hatter Roundup, Ochoa went a perfect 4-for-4 at No. 11 Tennessee on March 17. The four hits were a career-high, and are tied for the most hits in a game by a Hawkeye player this season.

The Stanton, Calif., native closed out the week by going 5-for-6 with four runs scored and one RBI in the doubleheader sweep over South Dakota on March 20.

Ochoa's three multi-hit games for the week gave her eight on the season, and her performance lifted her batting average to .443, which, at the time, was second best on the team.

"Stephanie had a great week and helped put us in position to take a game from nationally-ranked Tennessee," said UI head coach Marla Looper.

While at Iowa Lakes, Ochoa became a two-time All American after breaking the record books at Iowa Lakes. Ochoa left Iowa Lakes with a leading .492 batting average, the career leader in runs (135), doubles (56) and second in hits (192). She was a constant in the middle of the Iowa Lakes lineup for two seasons.
