The Wrestling Coach at Iowa Lakes has taken a new head coaching position at the university level.
Corey VanGroll notified the college that he accepted a head coach position in Wisconsin and would be moving on.
VanGroll was appreciative of his time with Iowa Lakes.
“I would like to thank Troy Larson and Iowa Lakes for the opportunity to be a Graduate Assistant, and a Head Coach. Iowa Lakes has given me much more than I could ever give it,” VanGroll said. “I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to work with so many standout individuals at a great institution. I am sad to leave, but very excited for my new job and challenges ahead.”
After spending two seasons as a graduate assistant coach for the Lakers, VanGroll was selected as the Lakers' third head coach for the 2011-2012 wrestling season. A Wisconsin native, VanGroll’s new position will allow him to be closer to family.
Now the focus for Iowa Lakes will shift to finding VanGroll’s replacement.
“I want to wish him well in his new position. He did a good job in his three years at Iowa Lakes. He put the student-athletes first and was there for his team.” said Athletics Director Troy Larson. He went on to add, “The future of Iowa Lakes wrestling is encouraging. We are traditionally a top 10 program. With our facilities, support from administration and area talent, the head coach position is a very attractive job.”
