With Coach Nell at the helm the Iowa Lakes baseball team continues to strive to build a winning tradition. In his 14th season as the head coach for the Lakers, Nell has produced 323 wins. Jason brings a hardnosed style of play to the baseball field that has led to the Lakers success.
In addition, Coach Nell has also worked for the Mankato Moondogs, the Waterloo Bucks and currently serves as field manager for the LaCrosse Loggers of the Northwoods League. The league is regarded as the one of the best summer collegiate leagues in the nation. In this league, Jason is 4th all-time in wins and has coached 70 players drafted by the MLB.
Coach Nell’s players are involved in the community helping out with private lessons, winter training camps, fall baseball league in Estherville, and the Laker’s own fall hitting league. Also, the Lakers have been willing to devote their time and effort to various people, organizations, and programs that are in need in the community. Jason adds, “We want to develop our guys through respect, responsibility, and priorities... They will become better baseball players by attending Iowa Lakes. However, my main concern is making them better fathers, husbands, young men, workers. And opening up doors and opportunities at different colleges and universities."
During Coach Nell’s tenure, the Lakers have produced 5 All-Americans, 8 Academic All-Americans, and 40 All-Region selections. As well as these honors, the Lakers have sent 73 players continuing their baseball careers at different NCAA Division I, II, III and NAIA programs.
