Kent Schroeder '03-'05 Men's Golf
Kent decided to come to Iowa Lakes after visiting the campus and getting the chance to talk with - at the time - head golf Coach Dan Soper.
Coach Soper not only helped get Kent to Iowa Lakes, he also made the greatest impression on him while he was here. "Coach was always there to give guidance on anything, from hitting a knock down to questions on life. He was instrumental in developing the person I am today and I am eternally grateful."
Coach Soper had many good things to say about Kent. “I have so many memories of Kent during his time at Iowa Lakes. He was a very talented and confident young man coming to Iowa Lakes. What really sticks out with me though is how he handled defeat in his freshman year to motivate him and persevere his sophomore year. He fell one spot short of making Nationals as a freshman and could really see and feel his disappointment. He continued to work hard and not only did he qualify for Nationals as a sophomore but played what I would say is the best 36 holes of golf I have ever witnessed by a Laker Golfer and won Regionals at a very difficult Hunter’s Ridge Course in Marion, Iowa. He would be the first to tell you he had a lot of support along the way and his family support was tremendous. Especially his dad, Derek, was always at the meets supporting Kent and also all of the kids in the Laker Program. Finally, I was privileged to be a guest last summer when Kent married his best friend Kasey in Sioux City, it is really what coaching is about -- sharing life events and developing lifelong relationships."
While attending Iowa Lakes for his General Education degree, he was a region XI Tournament Medalist and a NJCAA National Tournament Qualifier.
Although it was hard for Kent to pick one fond memory he has about being a Laker - some of the most fun he had was when the golf team would travel for their spring trip to Bella Vista, Arkansas, and the camaraderie of the team and their learning of invaluable "Joe Dirt" golf speak.
After graduating from Iowa Lakes, he attended Buena Vista University and now is a broker with HTD Ameritrade out of Omaha, Nebraska.
He would like to thank his wife and parents for all of their love and support.
Congratulations Kent Schroeder on being named to the First Ever Laker Hall of Fame.
