The Clay County Merit Scholarship was established at Iowa Lakes Community College in 1999. The Iowa Lakes Foundation hosts an annual golf outing with the help of Iowa Lakes employees and community committee members to fund this scholarship. Requirements include full-time enrollment, permanent Clay County resident, community service and a minimum cumulative 2.5 GPA. Award amounts vary and must be used for tuition, books or fees.
The 2012-13 recipients are: Kayla Banks, Lindsay Bonney, Brittany Carter, Paul Caswell, Phillip Claus, Cassandra Galm, Nitasha Howe, Kaylee Kourousis, and Megan Wissbaum from Spencer; Trevin Enderson of Dickens, Stacey Geerdes of Everly, Dillian Mathys of Providence, and Brice Montgomery of Royal.
