Grant Benefits Vets in Emmetsburg

September 1, 2011

A recent American Legion of Iowa Foundation grant awarded to the Emmetsburg Public Library, which shares space and materials with Iowa Lakes Community College, will aid in the purchase of several materials to benefit area veterans.

The Veterans’ Literature Project is designed to provide area veterans with access to materials that reflect their military experience, help them transition into civilian life, and offer information about combat-related physical and mental health issues. The materials will be on display at the Emmetsburg Public Library as part of the library’s circulating collection.

“With the grant, we were able to purchase 15 new books and DVDs which will help to meet needs of local veterans looking for information regarding their experiences with the military,” said Iowa Lakes Grant Writer Abigail Sedlacek.

Nathan Clark, Emmetsburg Public Library Director, said the grant will benefit more than just Emmetsburg library patrons.

“College students and public library patrons alike may access this collection and any of the libraries’ materials,” Clark commented.

The materials will be available for patrons after September 1. For additional information about Iowa Lakes Community College, visit
