Scholarship Application at Iowa Lakes Community College

Complete these steps:

Submit an application for admission to Iowa Lakes Community College PRIOR to applying for any scholarships. (The Gene Leonard Memorial Scholarship and two of the Palo Alto Corn and Soybean Growers Association Scholarships are the only exceptions.)
Complete the online scholarship application form. Be sure to check ONLY the scholarships for which you are eligible.
Request no more than two letters or forms of recommendation from non-relative community members to explain your potential, experiences, work ethic, ambition and character. Your recommenders may be, but are not limited to: appropriate instructor, guidance counselor, past or present employer, member of the clergy. A printable pdf file of the recommendation form is available here for the convenience of your recommenders. Recommenders may write a letter instead of using the form, but they do not need to do both. Only the first two recommendations received by the Institutional Advancement Office will be used with your application. All additional recommendations WILL BE DISCARDED.
Write a one-page summary. Summary should include your personal history, educational/career goals, why you feel you are deserving of a scholarship, etc. If you meet criteria mentioned in a specific scholarship description (planning to transfer, community service, etc.) make sure to include this information in your summary!
Keep copies of all documents for yourself! Your documents could be lost in transit; it is much easier for you to take the time to keep a copy now than recreate your entire scholarship application file!
Before the scholarship deadline date, confirm that your complete scholarship file (online application, summary, two recommendations) has been received in the Institutional Advancement Office by calling 712-362-0410 or 800-242-5106 ext 4410 or e-mail bkraft@iowalakes.edu. If scholarship deadline falls on a weekend or holiday, applications will be accepted the following business day.
Complete your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) as early as possible after January 1 to ensure that your FAFSA results are sent to Iowa Lakes by April 1. Include the code #001864 on the form, this routes your info to Iowa Lakes. Your FAFSA information is needed to determine your eligibility for only scholarships based on financial need. Online application at www.fafsa.ed.gov is the quickest way to complete your FAFSA.

I understand I must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be considered for need based scholarships. If my FAFSA form results are not finalized by April 1 my application will not be considered for need based scholarships. I have requested my FAFSA form to be sent to Iowa Lakes (#001864). I will confirm my FAFSA is finalized by contacting the Iowa Lakes Financial Aid Office.

I understand a one page summary and two letters or forms of recommendation need to be included with my application in order to complete the scholarship application process. My summary should include personal history, my educational and career goals and why I am deserving of a scholarship. If I meet specific criteria mentioned in the scholarship description (planning to transfer, community service, etc.) I will make sure to include this information in my summary. If any of my recommendation letters or forms are sent directly to the Institutional Advancement/Foundations Office I am responsible for confirming their receipt.

I understand that failure to file the above mentioned documents in a timely manner will make me ineligible for scholarships. I hereby give Iowa Lakes Community College permission to access confidential information in my files to determine my scholarship need and the right to use my name and/or photograph in promoting the college.
