Iowa’s MSHA State Grant Program classes are taught by Burt Ostert, an MSHA approved instructor. The training is: Current with federal and state mining regulations, policies and procedures; Focused on trends in causes of mining accidents and ‘near misses’; Applicable to workers in all areas of Iowa’s mine operations; Taught in classes of 30 or less students; and Designed to meet or exceed all state and federal policies, regulations, and guidelines. Part 46: Surface Annual 8-hour Refresher Includes all miners employed in MSHA Part 46 industries’ surface mines, including contractors working on mine sites. About the instructor: Mr. Ostert has over 18 years of leadership experience in safety training, including 13 years in mining. As previous chair of the Associated General Contractors of Iowa and Iowa Ready Mixed Concrete Association safety committees, Burt has a comprehensive understanding of issues facing your industry. He is an approved MSHA trainer for the State of Iowa.

VFDs were developed to efficiently vary the speed of three-phase motors while performing other important functions. This class will cover basic theory of operations, discussion of the various parameters found in most drives, and hands-on programming for participants of an Allen-Bradley Powerflex 40 VFD. This course is approved for 6 non-code IA electrical continuing education hours.

Topics covered include common welding and cutting processes, weldability of metals, identification of metals, welding terms and definitions. No previous welding experience is required. At the end of the course students will have the option to take certification exams in one or more of the AWS, API or ASME codes for an additional fee of $100 per exam. Our instructor is a Certified Welding Educator and Certified Welding Inspector through the American Welding Society.

Two hours OSHA Safety or Two hours HVAC or Refrigeration discipline. This class covers many of the safety aspects of handling, transporting and storing commonly used Oxygen and Acetylene torches, as well as, how to set the pressures for brazing and the safe use of Nitrogen while brazing.
