Position:      SAVE Program Tutor
Classification: Classified

Report to:  Special Needs Director

           

General Job Summary:

This is a part-time (20 hours/week during school year) position located at the Emmetsburg Campus. Primary duties are to tutor and instruct Special Needs Students in the SAVE Program and to participate with their orientation, planning and scheduling.

 % of TIME                                           Essential Duties/Responsibilities  


1.   Constant

(67-100%)

  1. Assist to organize, teach and evaluate student performance in various aspects of their programs within the College.

  2. Tutor SAVE students, individually and in groups, enrolled in College credit classes.

  3. Teach daily living skills to SAVE students and assist in the lab.

  4. Participate in and conduct “group” sessions for C.O.C. and SAVE students.

 

 

2.   Frequent

(34-66%)

  1. Assist in maintaining student records and files.

  2. Assist in student program planning and IEP process.

  3. Advertisement of students with disabilities in personal, family, and academic areas.

  4. Maintain student discipline as necessary to correct inappropriate behavior and assist with classroom management.
 

3.   Occasional

(10-33%)

  1. Substitute for other special needs staff as necessary.

  2. Participate on voluntary and assigned committees of the College.

  3. Regularly engage in professional development activities and keep current with developing trends and ideas in profession.

  1. Represent the College in a positive manner with prospective, former and current students, staff and the community.

  2. Ability to organize and present various concepts to a wide range of students with varying backgrounds and abilities and adjust techniques accordingly.

  3. Present oneself in a manner that is acceptable and consistent with program and College guidelines, policies and practices.

  4. Assume responsibility, deal effectively with problems and exercise independent judgment when making decisions.

  5. Establish and maintain good working relationships with clients, colleagues, staff, administrators and other contacts.

  6. Read, understand and express oneself clearly and effectively in oral and written communications.

  7. Possess strong human relations skills and the ability to effectively relate to diverse personalities.

  8. Be a creative, energetic and self motivated individual with demonstrated leadership and organizational skills.

  9. Possess a working knowledge of personal computers and educational media equipment.

Special Demands:

Position involves sitting or standing most of the time in an office or classroom/laboratory setting. Constant (67-100%) reaching, standing, walking, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, repetitive motions and viewing various types of close visual work. Frequent (34-66%) stooping, crouching, pushing, pulling, and carrying. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally. Must have valid driver’s license, good driving record and provide proof of insurance. Required to travel utilizing personal vehicle.

Employment with Iowa Lakes Community College is dependent upon successful passage of a criminal background check.

Minimum Qualifications:  

An Associate’s Degree in rehabilitation, special education or related area is required. Bachelor’s Degree is preferred. Experience in working with students with disabilities is desirable.

Salary:   $11.00 /hr
