Position:      Success Center Instructional Assistant

Report to:  Spencer Campus Dean

           

General Job Summary:

This is a part-time position (approximately 10 – 20 hours a week evenings and Saturday mornings) at the Spencer Campus Success Center with responsibility of providing instruction for ABE/GED, Success Center college credit courses, high school diploma credits, and developmental education courses. This position requires managing educational and library materials and monitoring tests for internal and external users. Organizational skills and a strong commitment to “customer service” and “student centeredness” are essential.

1.   Constant

(67-100%)

  1. Provide individual and/or group instruction in ABE/GED, Success Center college credit courses, high school diploma credits, and developmental education courses. Check work, grade, re-teach, and record daily work and tests.

  2. Work independently on day to day assignments.

  3. Administer CBC tests, faculty make up tests, and online test.

 

 

 

 

 

2.   Frequent

(34-66%)

  1. Enroll students in ABE/GED and high school completion credits.

  2. Work closely and communicate regularly with other College personnel to promote student success.

  3. Administer student assessments and maintain records of progress.

  4. Administer CLEP & ACT residual, EMT and other standardized tests as assigned.

  5. Supervise student computer lab.

  6. Assist students in using computer technology for information retrieval and research.

  7. Orient students to library and computer lab.

 

 

 

3.   Occasional

(10-33%)

  1. Compute mid-term and final grades for college credit courses, high school diploma credit classes, and developmental education classes.

  2. Maintain progress and student records and files.

  3. Utilize LSA results and help students interpret results individually.

  4. Assist in ordering materials and supplies.

  5. Organize library materials, maintain circulation records, and fulfill library requests from other Iowa Lakes Community College Campuses.

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of personal computers and educational media equipment.

  2. Thorough knowledge of correct English usage, grammar, punctuation, and mathematics.

  3. Ability to assume responsibility; deal effectively with problems, and exercise good judgment when making decisions.

  4. Ability to effectively work with under prepared students.

  5. Ability to effectively interact with students and college personnel to promote student success.

  6. Ability to efficiently perform tasks in an environment of frequent interruptions.

  7. Enthusiastic and energetic in job performance; maintain high standards of ethics, honesty, and integrity in assigned duties and responsibilities.

  8. Represent the College in a positive manner to employees, students, visitors, and the general public.

Employment with Iowa Lakes Community College is dependent upon successful passage of a criminal background check.

Minimum Qualifications:  

Bachelor’s Degree in Education required.

Salary: $15.40 per hour
