Position:      Educational Talent Search Coordinator
Classification:

100% Grant Funded Position (Unclassified); 12 month non-continuing contract

Funding is dependent on Continuing grant from US department of education

Report to:  TRIO Director

           

General Job Summary:

This is a full-time 260 day position on the Emmetsburg Campus. Responsibilities are to provide academic, career and postsecondary education advising to grant program participants. Evening and weekend work required. Position is contingent upon continued grant funding.

 

 % of TIME                                           Essential Duties/Responsibilities  


1.   Constant

(67-100%)

  1. Recruit eligible students for program participation.

  2. Plan overall activity calendar with assistance from ETS Advisors, in accordance with grant stipulations

  3. Oversee Program services in target school districts, including academic advising, assessment, and support services for students

  4. Complete and maintain grant records as required.

  5. Meet regularly with students for tracking, mentoring, monitoring and academic advising.

  6. Serve as Student Advocate to ensure entrance and acceptance into higher education programs.

 

 

2.   Frequent

(34-66%)

  1. Track students through consistent contacts during the school day, at evening tutoring sessions, and/or Saturday activities.

  2. Advise student population to ensure persistence in ETS program and completion of academic core curriculum.

  3. Coordinate Activities, including workshop/conferences, award recognition events, Parent/Advisory group meetings and cultural activities.

  4. Plan and Track enrichment activities for overall program.
 

3.   Occasional

(10-33%)

  1. Coordinate, document and evaluate ETS Discovery Camp.

  2. Conduct Overall Annual Program File Review.

  3. Track TREND Lines for program participant.

  4. Coordinate Quarterly Reports and Goals.

  

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  
  1. Strong organizational skills and attention to details.

  2. Knowledge of TRIO eligibility criteria and program regulations and/or experience working with TRIO-eligible students.

  3. Ability to communicate with ETS staff and within the college unit.

  4. Ability to utilize a personal computer for word processing and accessing software programs.

  5. Able to transport students utilizing a 15 passenger van.

  6. Represent Iowa Lakes Community College in a positive manner to employees, students, visitors, and the general public.

  7. Must be enthusiastic and energetic in performance of assigned duties and responsibilities.

  8. Ability to utilize correct English, grammar, punctuation, and arithmetic.

  9. Ability to read and understand written/oral instructors or communication.

  10. Ability to efficiently perform tasks in an environment with frequent interruptions.

  11. Ability to assume responsibility; deal effectively with problems, and exercise good judgment when making decisions.

  12. Ability to effectively relate to participants of diverse social and economic backgrounds.

  13. Ability to establish good working relationships with local school personnel, human service agencies and other personnel of the college.

  14. Ability to meet with administrators, faculty, students and parents to promote a positive image of Educational Talent Search.

  15. Ability to organize and plan with the capability to work independently.

 

Special Demands:

Sedentary to light work. Position involves sitting most of the time; exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally (10-33%). Stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, carrying, and repetitive motion occasionally (10-33%). Walking, lifting and grasping frequently (34-66%). Talking, hearing, and viewing various types of close visual work constantly (67-100%). Must have valid driver’s license, good driving record and provide proof of insurance. Required to travel utilizing personal vehicle. Some evening and weekend work required.

Employment with Iowa Lakes Community College is dependent upon successful passage of a criminal background check.

Minimum Qualifications:  

Master’s Degree preferred; Bachelor’s Degree in secondary education, counseling or related field required. TRIO eligible background or experience preferred.

Salary: $31,500 for a 260 day contract
