COURSE OBJECTIVES/COMPETENCIES: After completing the course, the student will be able to:

    1. Define the concept of management within an organization context and as a process.
    2. Discuss the responsibilities of functional and general managers.
    3. Describe the environmental trends that are affecting the way organizations operate and the way managers do their jobs.
    4. Describe the manager of tomorrow in terms of managerial style and the competencies necessary for success.
    5. Identify the five major perspectives of management thought.
    6. Describe the theories of the major contributors to the behavioral perspective of management.
    7. Discuss the stakeholder view of the firm.
    8. Distinguish among the three perspectives of corporate social responsibility.
    9. Discuss the ten commandments of social responsibility.
    10. Explain the methods used to encourage ethical business behavior.
    11. Distinguish between terminal and instrumental values.
    12. Define strategic planning and discuss its impact on quality.
    13. Define operational planning.

Chapter tests 50%

Dailywork 40%

Attendance/Participation 10%

Please note, if you are unable to be in class the date of a test and you feel you have a valid excuse, it will be necessary to contact the instructor prior to the class period of the test, if the test is to be made up. There will be no make-ups for quizzes.
