Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) & Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) classes
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT):
This course is based on the new EMT educational standards. It emphasizes development of student skills in patient assessment and examination for adults and pediatrics; recognition of signs & symptoms of illness or injury; proper procedures when rendering emergency medical care. This course is approximately 138 hours of class room including psychomotor skills labs and 20 hours of onsite clinical evaluation. Some general topics covered include: human anatomy & physiology; bleeding & shock; bandaging & splinting; med/behavioral; OB/GYN; environmental emergencies and ambulance operations. Must register and pass both EMT-1 & EMT-2 to be eligible to take the certification exam. *NOTE CHANGE OF DATE*

Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT):
This course is based on the new AEMT educational standards. It involves additional training on the same topic areas listed above plus some additional skills. It is approximately 177 hours of class room including psychomotor skills labs and a minimum of 45 hours of clinical/field time.

Emergency Medical Services, Continuing Education
See below titles for EMS Continuing Education scheduled at this time. Many of these classes are for specific personnel within the EMS System. There are also General Conferences scheduled throughout the area. All are good opportunities for EMS Con ED. Provider Class Audits - This can be done at EMT or AEMT classes listed. Look at the schedule and decide which classes you need to attend. When you come to class, just complete the correct paperwork and pay $10 or bill your department. This is a very inexpensive way to receive continuing education. It can cover the topics needed for a refresher and transition. The College also approves Credit for many services doing in-house education. State EMS Instructor Update
Get the latest information and stay current when teaching EMS classes. This course is recommended for any one that instructs EMS provider class and Continuing Education classes. If your current State EMS License/Certification has the EMS Instructors Endorsement (T) you are required to attend this update, sponsored by the Bureau or EMS, once every two years to maintain your endorsement. This class is presented in a webinar format at one location in each IA EMS Training Program’s Area by the IDPH, Bureau of EMS. It is Formal Education (FE)
EMS Practical Evaluator Exam Endorsement
This endorsement is required for EMS providers to be an evaluator for the State/NREMT practical exam. This class is a webinar style class present by the Bureau of EMS. It is offered at each Iowa EMS Training program. The college EMS program also recommends previous endorsed providers come to the class to be updated on changes from the State.
ILCC Practical Evaluator or Instructor
These class are held to train evaluators and instructors that wish to help with practical exams & classes at the college. They will orientate, review and update College guidelines and requirements for staff working at the college. Optional EMS credit will be given.
