Director's Notes
After a lot of planning, our
RSVP web site is finally up and running! We
appreciate the support of our sponsor, Iowa
Lakes Community College, in helping us design,
launch and maintain our web site. We hope that
current and potential volunteers will refer to
the site often to become familiar with RSVP and
its mission, get to know the RSVP staff and
office locations, and to find out about new
volunteer opportunities.
As director of the Northwest Iowa
RSVP for the past 20 years, I feel I have the
best job in the world. Each day I come to work
looking forward to meeting new people and facing
new challenges, and each night I go home knowing
that I have “helped someone to help someone.”
The success of the program is not
because of the RSVP staff as much as it is
because of the volunteers who give of their time
and resources to make their communities a better
place in which to live.
There are nearly 700 men and
women 55 and older who are registered with the
Northwest Iowa RSVP in Clay, Dickinson, Emmet,
Kossuth and Palo Alto counties. Last year they
donated 45,000 hours to public agencies,
non-profit organizations and individuals in need
of assistance. They tutored and mentored
children, provided medical and other necessary
transportation, delivered Meals-on-Wheels,
visited home-bound and elderly residents,
assisted with mailings and group projects,
worked at hospitals and clinics, helped with
blood drives, made baby hats for newborns and
young children, and/or volunteered at one or
several of the 200+ volunteer sites registered
with RSVP.
If you’re already volunteering,
we thank you for your service. If you’d like us
to call you more often with information about
new volunteer opportunities, please
contact us.
If you’re not currently
registered as an RSVP volunteer, or if you know
someone who would like to volunteer, please
contact us. We can help you (or someone you
know) find a volunteer activity that matches
your skills, interests and availability while
meeting the needs of your community.
